I am a frequent customer to Johnny's but recently i got a milk-shake and paid with my debit card and put a $1.00 tip on the receipt. It ends up they charged $3.00 for a tip instead of the intended $1.00. very disappointed by this.

Johnny B Good's is your classic 50's-style diner, complete with vinyl booths, wall-schlock (including an LP of 'Ring of Fire'!), and other culturally-neutered kitsch. Their food, though, is strictly homey-Americana - big burgers, chicken-fried steak, and other standard comfort fare. Oh, and gyros, for some reason. Despite this rather lackluster and haphazard menu, Johnny's does what it needs to do exceptionally well - it makes DELICIOUS food. The fries are good, the burgers are solid, the chicken-fried steak is superb, and leaving without having one of their milkshakes is a crime against both Man and God. Their beer "selection" is only Bud (ugh), but other than that misstep they're amazingly great. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and knows when to backoff and just let you eat. Also, they offer a sort of "gift certificate" board for milkshakes, where you can pay now for a milkshake your friend might enjoy Tuesday. The Girl and I purchased a shake for our friend 2 years ago, and it's still up on the board as she hasn't claimed it. So, if nothing else, the staff is honest. If you're looking for a good burger and a relaxed atmosphere in Steamboat (and don't feel like a real beer), you can do much much MUCH worse than Johnny B Goods.

We were walking around Lincoln this afternoon and stumbled upon this place and decided to try it out. We walked in and was promptly greeted. Everyone in the restaurant was very friendly. My wife ordered the tuna melt and I ordered the fish and chips while the kids had the chicken tenders. My wife loved the tuna melt she had. Not too much mayo and the bread was toasted just right. The fish and chips I had was tender and did not have too much batter. It was also crispy and had nice portions of fish. We liked our food and service was excellent we would definitely come back again next time we are in town.

We met Mike on the gondola and he gave are kids free shakes. The food was very good. The burgers and melts are awesome. Get an old fashioned shake as well

I am a fan of this diner, just remember it is small ... They do a lot of business and if you are in town with kids, this is a great place. Good diner-esque food (just like you would expect). So, you not getting a trendy take on a diner in the food or the place. You are getting good old fashioned American Diner and they are very good at it. The staff has always been friendly and willing to lend a hand when you are wrangling little ruffians. I enjoy the casual atmosphere and the reasonable prices. Good stuff across the board!

I love this place! I go here every time were in steamboat, I didn't know they had a back patio I'm hoping to see what that's like next time! I got a virgin bloody mary since I have a baby on board and it was freaking delicious!! People think breakfast is easy to make its really not to me. This place is awesome!! Everything is always great, never to greasy. The customer service is great. From the gentleman who greats you from the bar and all the servers they have their and even the bussers are quick to greet you. That's huge to me. I feel terrible I don't remember our servers name, but she had short brown hair and an accent. She was great!! Thank you! See you next time!!

The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. They let us sit on the patio with our dog which can be a HUGE deciding factor. I had a classic breakfast with eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast. I always forget to ask for my toast dry, so I am happy that they left the butter off. I ordered my eggs over medium, but they came out pretty easy. No big deal, I'm not too picky. The bacon was great, not too fatty and a little on the crispy side. There isn't much "ambiance", but it's a diner, and again, I'm not that picky. If you're looking for a really good, quick and easy breakfast, this is the spot. Being a local, I will definitely return and next time I will try one of the adult milkshakes all my friends rave about!!

We had lunch here the other day, and the service was outstanding. A real great hole in the wall place.. I really like that the banana milk shake was made with REAL bananas. Our burgers were cooked just the way we asked. Coming into this place you felt like you had stepped back in time. Great place for the family to come after a hot days worth of baseball and cool off.

I like nostalgic places. This is very nostalgic, if you ask me! The place was crowded, but luckily they have an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy the fresh air and good food. The food is your average diner fare -- burger and fries, chili, etc. Large portions plus good service equals =^ ) Can't go wrong with delicious diner food!

  • Kristina W.

stopped in cuz we were craving homemade pie. Thank goodness the chocolate shop gave us a hint on trying this place... DELICIOUS!!! Will be back!!! Hubby got the apple caramel crumb and I got the strawblueberry crumble. Both ala mode with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream... HEAVENLY!!! Thank you for making my night!!!

  • Tara D.

The milkshakes are the best! Old-fashioned and tons of flavor choices, from classic (go for mint chocolate chip) to fruity (peach!) and different (orange creamsicle!) You can also get the shakes to-go, which is really handy if you're full from their huge selection of sandwiches. The Rueben is great, really can't go wrong with anything. Love the chili cheese fries for a starter plate (it's huge), plenty to share. The staff is very friendly and recognizes you if you come often enough! Very efficient and food comes out quickly. Great decorations in the diner too, fun 50s theme!

We came in for the first time for dinner. The website needed to be updated if they are not going to honor the Lucky 7's specials. Two of the younger servers were new. It was their first day. We both ordered the Burger of the Day with fries for $5.95 and a shake. I had found a coupon for a 2 for 1 shake ($3.99 value) in The Steamboat Guide Book. The burger, fries, and shake were all average. The 6 ounce choice ground beef was cooked perfectly. The fries were crisp but not seasoned. The vanilla shake was watery. We probably won't be back.

In hindsight, I probably should have just gotten pancakes or some other type of impossible to mess up diner food, but a green chile smothered breakfast burrito seemed like a good idea after spending two rain soaked days stomping around the Mt. Zirkel wilderness. What I got just made me disappointed and a little bit sad. I guess their idea of green chile is plain ground pork with a few diced chiles. The burrito was mostly scrambled egg with minimal fillings. I guess playing it on the bland side might be a good idea when you're dealing with tourists, but I really didn't want more than a few bites. At least the hash browns were edible.

The waitress was attractive and extremely nice! I had a burger on French toast which was a new experience. Don't regret it but probs won't order it again. Give it a try.

An old time diner complete with milkshakes and Formica counters with stools. 60's music on the air. This is not high class dining but great food in a relaxed situation. The burgers are large with great flavor. If you don't see a shake you like, just ask and they will likely accommodate you. I chose the slaw instead of fries and it was a huge helping and good tasting. If you want to remember or visit the 60's, stop in.

We thought this would be a simple kid-friendly place for dinner. It is simple, and our burgers and fries were okay if you look past the slight taste of burned grease. Portion wise they were huge which is always a red flag for me. But my review lost a star when we got the check and the 2 cheeseburger kids meals were $9 each! All told with tip it was $50 and my wife and I only had cheeseburgers and water. Needless to say there was a bad aftertaste.

  • Craig M.

If you call something your "signature" dish, in this case the breakfast hash browns- shouldn't they be good? Wow- hard to screw up a potato but these were cold and tasteless. Fast service and friendly but not worth the visit.

Walked into this place for lunch based on a recommendation. Sure glad I took the advice. This place reminds you of an old school diner, like you went back in time a few decades. I had to have the chuck and fowl burger as I didn't have breakfast and this burger comes with eggs. SOLD! There is quite the selection of other typical diner food and from speaking with locals who frequent the place often, you can't go wrong with anything you order off the menu. Behind the bar, they also have a list of milk shakes you can get....mixed with some booze if you'd like. It was a perfect way to top off my burger. Make sure you stop in here when you find yourself in Steamboat. You won't be disappointed.

Went for lunch on our arrival day in Steamboat. Food was just ok and service was about the same. My family had a bowl of chili, kids pasta, kids cheese pizza, and the St. Patty's special of corned beef. We had to ask for our sides as they forgot them with the meal. Having young kids, I'm all for places that are a bit noisy. But it was way too loud in here.

Went with my friend who lives locally. We ordered a little bit of everything, and it was great. my burger was cooked to perfection, the Gyro was yummy and the French Dip looked perfect. The fries were perfect diner fries, and the milkshake made me want to cry. Cherry Chocolate PERFECTION. I know I'm overusing that word but it was a really good meal, and it made me very happy.

I dine at JBG about 2 mornings a week and love the service, the quality of the "home cooked" breakfast, and the mimosas are yummy. Pricing is BY FAR the most reasonable in town for breakfast items. Ambiance is fun and friendly. Highly recommend this place. A true local's fav. You really feel like family here.

I came here with a friend who promised cheap, tasty bloody mary's and that's exactly what I got. Service was good and friendly. We were given free "shots" of some really delicious Bailey's milkshake concoction. There's a neat system where you can pre-purchase milkshakes for friends and they write it on a dry ease board for when the friend comes in later. I only gave 4 stars because I don't feel like I fully experienced the place since I didn't try the food. I'll give it a shot the next time I'm in Steamboat. I really want a shake and a sandwich.

We went in for some food at around 4ish and were disappointed. The food was mediocre but the shakes were good. It was very noisy which I understand they can't help. The main problem I have is that Johnny b's is dirty. Our booth was right next to the kitchen. The booth was disgusting. It was taped up, food was brushed into the cracks, it was sticky and gum coated the bottom. The worst part was the kitchen. Inside sat a pile of food that was continually being stepped on and moved to the side. The pile was wet at disgusting. Somebody inside the kitchen saw me looking at it and just brushed it to the side. GROSS!!!!!!!

We walked in for the ambiance, but was sadly disappointed by the quality of the food. The cole slaw was flavorless, warm, and didn't taste fresh. Both the turkey and chicken sandwiches we ordered were dry and uninspired. The honey mustard dressing on the salad was more honey than anything else and was actually clear, viscous and sticky, although it had good flavor with a hint of horseradish added. The service was friendly, but slow. Our server seemed like the only one who knew what she was doing while the rest of the wait staff stood around looking cute and useless. I don't think it was her fault that it took so long for our food to come to our table. Neither my husband nor myself felt particularly well for several hours after that meal.

This 50's-style diner is my favorite place to eat in Steamboat Springs. I love the 50's, and chocolate malts and cheeseburgers, and Elvis and Marilyn, and anyplace I can do the twist like I did last summer. Furthermore, I am always pleased by delicious food, casual atmospheres, and good-timey people. Forget the foofaraw of Fancytown, just give me a sandwich! We ate at Johnny's several times during our stay in Steamboat Springs, and I have to say, Kathy and Mike treated us like family. We went back for many reasons, and their warm natures and quick wits were among them. The milkshakes are a runaway favorite. You already want one. You can mix and match flavors, and $4 gets you the whole 20-oz sha-zam, cooler-cold metal cup and everything. The menu is actually quite large for a diner. There is a massive list of no-joke sandwiches, including creative takes on just about any classic you can think of. I had several Reubens during my stay, and all of them were amazing. A couple of bites of Tom's patty melt made me want my own, so I went ahead and had one. The mashed potatoes and gravy that went with it took us right back to Grandma's. One morning we ordered egg sandwiches packed to go. They were still hot in the midst of our midday hike, well-constructed and beautiful to behold. The sweetness of the mountain air perfectly complemented the savory flavors of the sandwiches. They were divine. The bar also bears mentioning. Wait: HOW much for a giant bloody Mary made with Kathy's famous secret recipe? $2? Mimosas are also $2, and the mood-enhancing Man-mosas (a twist on the Screwdriver) are $3. The full bar is a fun addition to the 50's diner prototype. I hope it catches on. What's cuter? The kids' placemats covering the walls with drawings of Elvises and jukeboxes and thank you's to Kathy and Mike, or the high-schoolers from town serving, cooking, and giggling while Kathy and Mike keep them in line? I also appreciated the the wide-eyed little kids counting change for ice cream cones at the counter, and the retiree regulars enjoying their early-bird specials. The Rockwellian charm could make you misty-eyed! I can see why Johnny B Good's is a staple for townies and tourists alike. It's great food, and it's great fun. Shoo-be-doop bop! ba daaaaa!

Huge lunch portions! Kid-friendly, and it's OPEN. Lincoln Ave's practically a ghost town after ski season, so to see some friendly faces was nice. Sydney stayed on top of our drinks, food was good, and the bill wasn't too shabby for a resort town: $55-ish for 3 adults & 2 kids. My children-of-the-corn enjoyed being able to color on their placements. Thanks for the crayons!

I love this place. I first popped in after a good night of debauchery - A friend had recommended the neighboring restaurant as a good brunch spot, but it was way too packed, so Johnny's it was. It was serendipity. The whole place is decked out in authentic memorabilia. There is not an uninteresting wall. The food was great, and priced appropriately for a small diner in a mountain town. The proprietors were working right along side their very friendly staff, and engaged in conversation with the regulars as well us us pesky tourist types. To cap it of, they have a terrific $1.99 bloody mary and mimosa's are, I think, the same. Good times! Thanks to Jessie, and Mike, and everyone else that made my second and third visits back so pleasant. See you next time we're in town!

I don't like diners, I don't like chrome, I don't like Elvis. Yeah, I said it. I don't like Elvis. What I do like: green chile, HUGE portions, lack of pretense, an owner who will fill my big travel mug with coffee - over, and over, and over again. Being treated like family. I also happen to really like their biscuits and gravy AND that Mike made me a diner convert. Next time I find myself in town I'll be eating my breakfast here.

Terrible breakfast here. The only saving grace is that it was relatively cheap and kid friendly. Food was less than mediocre, and service was terrible. I feel sad to have wasted a breakfast opportunity here.

First timers; went for breakfast b/c of Eggs Benedict selections; diner was about half full; both ordered the Californian; mine with hash browns and the other with a fresh fruit cup; server was pleasant and attentive, but food service was slow; food was lukewarm when served; assume it sat b/c the Hollandaise sauce had congealed on the surface; had mine microwaved to enjoy it hot, but that made the egg yolks a bit solid; also the fruit tasted-off; oh well, too bad b/c the Eggs Benedict was very tasty and the side of bacon was as advertised, very good; might give it another try on next trip here, but with so many other options.......

Stopped in Steamboat for the night on our way north earlier this month. Ate here because we had kids with us and their kids menu looked good. Unfortunately their adults menu sucked. Their salad is bagged salad and not even the good kind - I'm talking about the kind full of iceberg and shredded carrots and cabbage. My grandmother had a reuben sandwich that made her ill. The restaurant was incredibly dirty - especially the floors - and has very little seating. We ate on the back patio and were constantly bothered by flies and mosquitoes. The only positive things I can say is that their french fries were good and that it's cheap compared to the other options in town. Really, try something else.

Excellent food, excellent drinks, all served in a friendly, un-pretentious atmosphere. Out of every place I ate on my vacation to Colorado, this was the least expensive, some of the best food, and absolutely the most fun.

We've been here a few times when we visit Steamboat, and both times the food was good and the service was excellent. We went there this year on Christmas Eve and our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. She even made sure our kids got outside to see the camel that just randomly started walking down the sidewalk with its owner. We have never eaten out on Christmas Eve, but I'm sure glad we did this year because we had a great time, and that was partly due to having fun at Johnny's. We'll definetely be repeat customers.

I've seen a lot of diners and IMO Johnny Rockets is much better. I realize this place isn't a chain, so for that maybe I was holding it to a little higher standard. The food is pretty expensive, the portions aren't incredible and everything I had tasted like it came out of a bag or bottle. This place just didn't seem to have much pride in their food or their restaurant. In a diner, where most everything is fried, (and everything always tastes better because it's fried) they managed to serve up some very mediocre food. Had it been cheaper for what I got I may have been a little more forgiving... our cherry phosphate was just gross. I've never been to a diner before whose salads were not made primarily of iceberg lettuce.

serviceable, but lackluster if other places are closed go here. it's like going to johnny rockets, perhaps a step up. if you want diner food, go to the one next door. if you want sundaes, go to lyon's drug store two stores down.

After eyeing the long line at the Shack, the tree of us decided we were so hungry that we were about to start ripping the wood mouldings off the door frame and gnawing on them. So, we decided to try a seat at the bar a couple doors down at Johnny B Goods. So very, very happy that we did. We sat down immediately and ordered up. Bloody Mary's, pretty decent. Omelettes, decadent and delicious. Eggs Benedict...any way you want it. Probably on my top 10 list for best eggs benedict ever, not to mention the delicious home fries they come with. the shakes are ooey, gooey, thick, and delicious. The pricing for a resort town is right on par. I got to talking with one of the owners and I'm not kidding, I now know where they live, the last place they went on vacation, and that it was their child's one-year birthday recently. That's how wonderfully friendly they are! (OK, they also know a ton about me and could probably blackmail me...I'm also that friendly). Everyone at the bar was just as nice, and I walked away with several great recommendations for the best places to eat...from the locals. I haven't tried dining there for lunch or dinner, nor have I sat in a booth...but I can tell you I had a delicious, full-filling experience for brunch at the bar. I'm still thinking of those California eggs benedict...

sooo if you're lookin for a good greasy spoon this is it. everyone goes to winona's, which is pretty good- but I think the staff and most of the food is better at JBG's. I wanted eggs Benedict that morning, (which the Shack doesn't have.. we go there a lot) so we tried JBG's and they had a ton of eggs benedict! and it was tasty! the coolest thing is the shake board though... they have a chalk board with a bunch of names pointing to other names...we asked what it was about, and it is a board where you can pre-buy a friend or loved one a shake and it's there's to redeem whenever. My hubby and I and had a spat the night before (love him to death but we can drive each other up the wall for sure!). I'm older than him so he always jokes that I'm his cougar and we always joke that "you were a great first husband" or "you were a great first wife"... so i bought him a shake from Cougar to Puppy#1.... we haven't been back yet so if you're up there you can search for our names....but don't steal our shake!!! Anyway JBG's is pretty awesome and don't miss the shakes!!!!

Johnny B not that Goods. I've lived in Steamboat for 10 years. I take my family of 6 out to eat a couple of times a week. I lost interest in the food and Service at Johnny B's a couple of years ago after several negative experiences with poor service and tasteless, mediocre food. So I tried it again a couple of weeks ago with the hopes they might step it up for the locals during mud season to generate a little business. I was once again very disappointed with the service and the food. My kids even said the food stunk, that's hard to do with my kids at a Diner. We had a range of food from a Chef Salad, Egg Sandwich, Fish and Chips to a burger. Most of it looked like it was prepared down in Denver and brought in on a truck. Not fresh. How hard it is to make a good tasting burger and fresh fries for $10.00? I also just couldn't overlook the employees/servers that had dirty finger nails, greasy hair and an over abundance of facial piercings while on duty. A little too casual even for a Diner. The shakes are still good, but overpriced. A lot of the menu is overpriced for low quality "Diner food", get real. If the food was good maybe they could get away with the resort prices. I'm all done with this place.
